Chris Becker is an artist and software engineer living in New York City. Self-taught, seeing Bob Ross at age 7 inspired him to paint, eventually picking up digital art, then settling on paper and pencil.
Chris’ art is inspired by 19th and early 20th century classical architecture and technology, artists like Giovanni Piranesi, M.C. Escher, Yoshitaka Amano and contemporary fantasy and steampunk artists. He enjoys exploring surreal, fantastical forms that spark the imagination and conjure visions of dreams and strange new worlds, with pieces so intricate, many assume they are AI-generated, despite taking weeks, even months, to complete by hand.
I chose a small assortment of my favorite works from Chris Becker to highlight as he shares a little about his work and feelings on “Early Dreams of Flight II" piece used for The Nine Muses collab:
“For most of human history, flight was a dream. In previous centuries people envisioned flight in fantastical and surreal ways. Imagination and invention ran wild, and aircraft were outlandish—only the bold and daring took to the skies.
“Today, flight is mundane—we fly only to land somewhere else as quickly as possible. We’re herded through airports, shoved through lines, squeezed into seats only to cram a bad movie or two in just to ease the unpleasantness.
“Early Dreams of Flight aspires to revisit the magic of flying—because the skies should be inspiring, and we should be bold and daring with our imagination and inventions that take us there.” - Chris Becker
All The Nine Muses decks come with a hand numbered artist bio postcard signed by Chris Becker. Only 100 boards were made. The Nine Muses is honored to collaborate with Chris Becker on our second skateboard, showcasing a piece entitled “Early Dreams of Flight II".
