3. Intentional vs. Unintentional Mockery
Linguists recognize a phenomenon called communication accommodation or convergence, where people unconsciously mimic the accent or cadence of those around them to build rapport. However, when someone deliberately shifts into a exaggerated dialect specifically to demean or caricature a racial group, the intent is inherently pejorative and hostile.
