Quotable...

In case some of you didn't bother to read it, I think Marc Johnson had a few really good things to say in this Thrasher SOTY interview. It's been quite a while since I thought about an interview for longer than say, five minutes after I finished reading it. So I have to offer a hearty "Nice one!" to Burnett and MJ.

"Much of what I see in skateboarding is completely routine and mundane, so I stay away from it."

"Most people can't stand being alone because it scares them. You have no distractions when you're isolated, so you're forced to confront yourself and deal with who and what you really are. Most people don't like themselves very much, so they surround themselves with constant distractions so they aren't forced to focus on how fucked and distorted they are."

"Imagination is what skateboarding sorely lacks."

"Maybe I didn't get that press release."

"A misconception about me is none of my business."

"People need to be careful about what they concentrate on."

"Stop copying what other people do, how they dress, and how they live. If you spend your life being someone else, you'll miss out on being you."

His view of isolation is a lot like the poet Bukowski's, and he has a method of discourse like an MFA. Dope ass read I'm glad you pointed it out I would have never seen that or never known that there are people like him in your industry.

I stopped reading skateboard interviews 4 years ago but I do dig the quotes. I'm seeing a new niche for you..."Rob's Interview Quotes". You pick the best quotes from the more interesting reads.

I view his isolation as him just really enjoying a good masturbation environment without that pesky uncomfortable fear of a random human possibly intruding in on one of his outrageous hand sex sessions. His views on life also remind me of a young Dostoevsky's and Judy Blume's of Super Fudge fame.
    Tee hee...serious is funny.
