Here's what went down on the DLX Helly Hyphy Bank. Skaters in order of appearance: Matt Allen, Justin Brock, Collin Provost, Mike Franklin, Josh Harmony, Mike Vallely, Dustin Dollin, Matt Bennett, Dennis Busenitz, Alex Olson, Caswell Berry, Corey Duffel and Nick Dompierre. Stay tuned for footy from the the enjoi, Element and Girl obstacles!
Dude! Best day I've had in a long time! Best contest I've seen in a long time! So rad to see the enjoi crew ripping at an event. The Dick Gauntlet was a hit! Caswell, Jerry and Louie were all so rad to watch. Besides them...Nick Dompierre, Rick McCrank, Corey Duffel, Alex Olson, Dennis Busenitz, Justin Brock, Nyjah Huston and Josh Harmony were all seriously charging shit..
Aside from winning the event, gotta hand it to Girl for comin up with the Mini Mega Ramp. That shit was entertaining as hell.
How long have you been skating?
About three years or so.
How did you get started in that?
Actually, my ex-boyfriend. His friends all skated, and I used to go with them to the skatepark in Cleveland every now and then, and I thought, “Ya know, I'm pretty athletic and I am not really scared of things. I should try this; it would give me something to do in the wintertime, because it is so cold." So I went to the skatepark everyday by myself. Sometimes I would go with them—I just kept skating and then one day I learned to drop in on this little mini ramp at Changa World and I got so excited that I just kept going, learning other little things.
I wrote this in May of 1997 for my Pope, Dryden and Swift literature class in college. Just found it on the hard drive recently and thought it was pretty funny I got an A on a critical paper by writing about shit. Yes shit, as in "feces." Well, shit and comparing Jonathan Swift to Howard Stern, Tool, Irvine Welsh and Beavis and Butthead. Amazing huh?
This was my junior year of college I believe. If you can seriously get through reading this thing, more power to you. Not that it is bad, just like, kinda bland. It was for class, what can I say? But entertaining to read almost 10 years later nonetheless. But more importantly, about poop! Also, seeing me trying to sound all scholarly with hints of total bullshitting injected throughout is a bit of a trip...kind of embarrassing right about now. I forget the title of the piece, so here ya go:
A lot of you "industry" dudes who claim you are still "skateboarders," but don't skate more than once a month (or skate at all for that matter) are reading that quote and might be thinking right now:
"Whatever man, I could go ollie down some stairs right now if I tried!"
