No Skateboarding Day! Go BMXing Instead!

Based on some comments I have been getting thinking etnies is somehow at fault for this, or those of you who just can't read properly, and just to clear up any confusion...because it is Go Skateboarding Day, etnies tried to get the BMX session cancelled tonight, but was unsuccessful because of the city's/skatepark's refusal to do so. Ultimately, the City of Lake Forest has the final say in what goes on at the skatepark.

There will be a Go Skateboarding Day event/BBQ/giveaways all day today at the skatepark, but unfortunately, there will be no skateboarding tonight from 7-9pm due to the BMX session. And that sucks. But be aware that etnies is doin' the right thing.

Now back to the original post from 6/20/06:

Despite requests by etnies employees and those organizing Go Skateboarding Day festivities at the park, the Skatepark of Lake Forest (i.e.: city of Lake Forest) isn't allowing skateboarding on the night of June 21 because it refuses to cancel one of three weekly BMX sessions (Wed 7pm-9pm).

Wait, isn't it called a "skatepark"? Wait, who donates to keep the park free every year? etnies and skateboarders and supporters of skateboarding, right? Um yea.

Isn't it wonderful that those of us who live in or around Lake Forest, who don't want to skate during the day in the sweltering heat, or can't skate during the day because of work, can't even rely on our own skatepark to back us on Go Skateboarding Day?

Skateboarders...shafted again. Just more douchebaggery for us to deal with. Don't worry, we can take it. We've taken this shit for years.

On another note, if this skatepark ever tries to charge you to skate, whether a band is playing or not, you do not (I repeat, you do not) have to pay to get in and it is against the policies of the skatepark to force you to pay or prohibit you from skateboarding if you don't pay.

I know this because I was denied entry one night last month when I didn't have my wallet on me (while a band was paying and the park was charging a $5 "donation" at the front gate). Despite me repeatedly asking about the fact that that park was supposed to be free and that I wasn't there to see any whack ass bands, I was denied entry for not having the $5.

Wait, isn't a "donation" voluntary, not required? Yeah, I thought so.

When I explained this retardedness to some people who work with the city and etnies (in regards to the skatepark and events there), I was informed that the park is 100% free and whoever was preventing me from getting in and was trying to charge me was seriously out of line with their head up their ass.

Do what you will with this information and have fun skateboarding tomorrow. Sadly, some of us have to do it without the help of our local skatepark...

How about a "Go Rebel Padless At The Etnies Skatepark Day"? Enter the park en masse, then take off your pads at a designated time. Those park nazi bastards won't be able to do shit.

Seriously, what are they going to do? Call the cops? No one can take on a mob of 100+ people without riot gear. Either way, it'll cause a controversy and cause The City or even The State (too ambitious) to rethink their strategy.

Sadly, this has NOTHING to do with the fact that someone took the time to plan construction on 21 June to renovate the skull bowl's pool coping and never considered what else might fall on that day. A holiday perhaps....maybe one where a perfectly sculpted pool could be used?

    Sweet timing.
