Ads Are Getting Gnarly!

February 14, 2006

This ad was dead center on the main login page of MySpace today. "Hey you zitfaced loser, you don't have a girlfriend and you aren't getting laid because of your acne so buy our crap!" I bet this ad leads to more teen suicide than purchases. Pretty raw. I think I like it.

Love Park Rally '04

February 13, 2006

I wrote similar Love Park Rally pieces for three different mags. For all you up-and-comers, that's a little trick in journalism called "triple dipping," where you go to an event and cover it for as many mags as are willing to pay for it. The opportunity doesn't arise often, so when it does, jump on it and smile all the way to the bank.

DC Love Park Donation
The Battle for Love Park Continues
By Rob Brink
TransWorld Business September 2004

On Tuesday June 1, DC Shoes president Ken Block arrived at Philadephia's Love Park to announce a $1 Million donation as a gift to the city for the legalization of skateboarding at the skateboarding landmark only to have his offer swiftly rejected by Philadelphia's Mayor Street.

DC's announcement, which was attended by hundreds of skateboarders (including professionals Ricky Oyola, Kerry Getz, Josh Kalis and Kevin Taylor), Edmund Bacon (94-year-old designer of Love Park), local media, skateboard industry members, politicians, elected city officials, parents of skateboarders, passers by, occurred in front of the Love statue when the city denied DC's request for a permit to use the park's stage and PA system.

Grant Taylor and the Chicken Finger!

February 9, 2006

Moments before backlipping a handrail: Grant and his McDonalds chicken tender.

I wrote about this Grant Taylor moment earlier in the week, but I honestly forgot that I snapped a photo of it. Just kinda stumbled upon it. Grant at Tampa Am '04. Priceless!

My Five Minutes With Briana Banks

February 9, 2006

At the September 2003 ASR trade Show in San Diego, I stumbled across porn star / Vivid girl Briana Banks signing posters for the fans. I'd never heard of her at the time, but she had big boobs and looked kinda hot, so, never wanting to miss the chance at an awkward or absurd moment, I decided to attempt getting a photo with her. In the meantime, I snapped some photos.

Tampa Am '06 Best Trick

February 9, 2006

Adam Dyet won, Sheldon Meleshinski got robbed, Sierra Fellers landed like 50 tricks, kids slammed and Terell broke a table with his butt. The Best Trick Contest at Tampa Am never gets old. Sorry for my shitty filming. Try holding a camera up, looking in the viewfinder and guessing which skater to film for well over 30 minutes and see how well you fare or if your batteries even last that long.

Anyone who can correctly guess where this song is from gets a free pat on...

Tampa Am '06 Montage #3!

February 8, 2006

The final montage I've got. Tampa Am '06 video of Bobby Worrest (check the back tails) Cody McEntire, Evan Smith, Antoine Asselin, a girl's butt and more!

This just in from Rob Meronek at Skatepark of Tampa!

Unknown ripper # 1 is David Bachinsky - he's not unknown anymore - he just kickflipped El Torro this weekend.

Thanks Rob, you proved I'm lazy and didn't feel like looking his name up. But you still spelled" El Toro" wrong. Haha.

Grant Taylor Rules!

February 7, 2006

The first time I saw Grant Taylor skate was at Tampa Am '04. He was on the deck of a quarterpipe at SPoT. I watched him take a chicken finger out of a McDonalds bag, take a bite, start chewing, drop in while holding the rest of the chicken finger, and backlip a handrail. Since then, he's been my absolute favorite am to watch.

A year later at Am '05, Grant slammed and both of his shoes went flying up into the air. He gathered his shoes and solemnly skated off the course barefoot. Pure entertainment...its in his demeanor. You just gotta see him. Nosegrinds every try down the big rail...and check the frontside flip on the quarterpipe.
