As promised, here's more video of Rammy Issa and Leo Romero from the Baker Christmas demo in LA on Sunday. And here's the Reynolds footy in case you missed it yesterday.
Today, Baker, Emerica, Active, DooGood Conservatory and more held a Christmas demo in Los Angeles, collecting canned goods for charity. Good cause, good times, sick skating. Here's more than enough video footage of Andrew Reynolds and Spanky to keep you busy for a day or two until I have a few moments to upload the Leo Romero and Rammy Issa footy. Trust me, it is worth the wait so stay tuned. Sorry for my lack of editing software, lack of fisheye and lack of a real video camera. Even though I'm still just the "writer guy," It seems I need to get it all soon. Additional footage. Enjoi.
etnies Holiday Festival Footage
Leo Romero and Austin Stephens
By Rob Brink
There was a holiday festival and charity event at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest today. Leo Romero and Austin Stephens, Ronnie Creager, Elissa Steamer, and Ron Chatman were there skating, Leo and Austin are a joy to watch. Oozing style. Austin was on the feeble tip today. Maybe these aren't mega "bangers" but I'm amazed that its just them crusing the park. Enough said. Watch the footage.
Here's my review of Emerica's This Is Skatebording video from Strength magazine. Although I don't regret what I said (it was my honest reaction to the video when it was released), I do like the video a lot more now that time has passed. Either way, Tosh was bummed and let everyone know in his Thrasher October '03 interview (see the quote above). However, he's since added me as a friend on MySpace, so that must mean we're cool now. Ironically, I currently work for Sole Technology, the company from which Emerica was born. There might be a lesson in there somewhere.
For my Cashing In On God article, the people I interviewed had lots of interesting and entertaining things to say. Since only a few quotes were pulled for the article, I figured y'all might want to read the full interviews, so I'll be posting them here, starting with Dave Carnie and Sean Cliver. More to follow.
"Industry Ticker" was a column for TransWorld Skateboarding Business that simply assembled info and facts in the skate industry. I did two of them and for some reason they never saw the light of day. I think it was about the time the three TransWorld Business mags (Skate, Surf, Snow) combined into one. Regardless, I thought this info was interesting.
This year's annual Skate Park of Tampa Pro Contest ran without a hitch as usual. Spectator turnout was about the same as previous years with 400 people on Friday and 600 people on both Saturday and Sunday. The addition of a new upstairs seating area made the crowd more comfortable and provided a better view. However, SPoT Owner Brian Schaefer and many others throughout the weekend noticed a dramatic decline in industry presence: "Skater, friend, and industry attendance was at an all-time low-related to the financial decline and tons of companies out of business, in my opinion."
