TransWorld Skateboarding August 2002

By now you know the results of the Tampa Pro from the internet, and you'll see an abundance of footage in 411 soon, so why would I bother talking about the contest when I can tell you about Andrew Reynolds' mom tossing out stickers? Obviously, we all love skating unconditionally, but there's no need to rehash when I could reveal tons of more interesting tidbits about Tampa Pro.

Young Bucks: Shaun White
By Rob Brink
Stance September 2002

Shaun White, snowboarder
Age: 16

Most people pick one activity in life, whether they love it or are naturally talented at it, and go with it. Maybe it is art or music, or a sport. Some are lucky enough to turn it into a career, while others just enjoy it as a hobby. Shaun White must have had trouble making up his mind, or maybe he is just too damn evolved for the rest of us humans to keep up and can master more than one discipline at a time.

Scribble: Leanne Biank
By Rob Brink
SG Magazine February 2005

Leanne Biank is a dear friend of mine and the best damn artist I know. I pitched her to SG magazine and they liked her work so much that they decided to let me write a feature on her. Here's the story as it ran in SG:

“When I first learned to talk, I told my mom that I hated coloring books and that I wanted a blank piece of paper to make my own lines,” says Biank.

Elijah Blue Allman Deadsy Interview Uncensored!

July 12, 2005

As promised, here is the full Elijah Blue Allman transcript from my interview for Stance magazine in August 2002.

What's the average day like for you?
Get up; hit the gym, yoga, reading and then right into Deadsy Business. We are filming our video, which is a huge project. As I get older, I try to have a sacred program to preserve myself. I try to be disciplined about staying healthy and in good shape, because that gives you clarity and confidence to do whatever it is you want to do. It keeps me in touch with that life force that lets me write a new song or whatever.

This is the Rodil feature as it appeared in ESPN Magazine followed by the full, unedited interview which eventually got Rodil the boot from his one and only sponsor, Dragon Optical, for not admitting he rode for them. You can also see the EXPN.com version of the article here.

Skate 4 Cash

Skateparks paved with gold. That's what Rodil de Araujo Jr. envisioned in 1995, when the skater first rolled into the U.S. He was one of the hottest street riders in skate-crazed Brazil, and North America promised magazine covers, video roles and a chance to skate for a living.

McDonalds Is Healthier Than Starbucks?

July 12, 2005

Last Thursday evening I was at San Diego airport en route to my hometown in NJ for the weekend. Behind me in the security line was a mother and her son who couldn't have been any older than 8 or 9 years old. As we got our bags off the belt and put our shoes back on, the young boy saw the Starbucks that was dead ahead of us in the food court and excitedly shouted:
